ToneDex is an experimental tool for musicians who want to better understand and compare the tone quality of their instrument sounds using objective, scientific parameters.

This app allows you to:

Record your instrument sound (auto-stops at 5 seconds)

Analyze the sound using 5 key parameters:
RMS (Loudness/Power)
ZCR (Noise / Breathiness)
Spectral Centroid (Brightness / Sharpness)
Bandwidth (Timbre Spread)
Brightness Index (High-frequency emphasis)

Visualize results in Z-score-based bar graphs

Rename and organize recordings

Share analysis results and graphs

ToneDex is designed especially for wind and acoustic instrument players who want to explore differences in setup, technique, or equipment (e.g., mouthpieces, reeds, embouchure).

While originally designed for saxophone comparison, it can be used for any monophonic instrument that produces steady tones.

No external data is collected or transmitted. All recordings remain on your device.
